My Pictorial Diary

A picture tells a thousand words, so I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Armed with nothing but a camera,
Take nothing but pictures,
Capture nothing but memories,
Leave nothing but footprints.

A Little Blog Refresh Is Underway

Blog renovation in progress. Please tahan the dust!

I've been looking through some of my older posts and decided it's time to give the blog a little refresh.

Little by little, I'll be tidying up the layout, arranging photographs into easier-to-enjoy collections and adding links so readers can continue wandering from one post to another.

There will be more photographs and fewer words, but whenever a picture brings back a special memory or a funny little incident, Aunty will still have a story to tell!

The blog remains open as usual, with old memories and new adventures continuing side by side.

Thank you for wandering along with me!

My Long-Lost Blog...I'm Back!!!

Memories Through My Lens

Today, I unexpectedly rediscovered a long-lost blog I had written many years ago. Reading through the old posts and looking at the photographs felt like opening a forgotten treasure box filled with memories.

Some people may see these old photographs as history, but to me, they are much more personal. They remind me of places I have visited, people I have met, food I have enjoyed, and little moments that might otherwise have slipped from my memory.

What makes them especially precious is that some of those places may no longer exist. Familiar streets have changed, old shops have disappeared, and buildings that once stood proudly may have made way for something new.

Back then, I simply took photographs of whatever caught my eye. I never imagined that years later, those ordinary snapshots would become little treasures of a world that has changed.

Finding this old blog has reminded me why I love photography so much. Every photograph holds a moment that can never be repeated in quite the same way.

So I'll continue sharing my old photographs alongside my new adventures. Perhaps someone will recognise a familiar place, remember a forgotten corner, or simply enjoy wandering through these memories with me.

There are still many photographs waiting to see daylight again, and I look forward to sharing them, one memory at a time.

HAVE A GREAT DAY MY FRIENDS!!!

“And the Golden Microchip Goes To… LOW BATTERY!”

When AI Becomes a Movie Star

These days, I watch some YouTube Shorts and scratch my head.

“Eh? This one real human or AI ah?”

Some AI characters look so realistic! They can walk, dance, talk, cry and act. Wah piang! Sometimes I really cannot tell the difference.

Last time watch YouTube:

“WAH! This actor very handsome leh!”

Now watch YouTube:

“WAH! This actor very handsome leh… BUT DOES HE EXIST???”

Even the pores look real! Next time aunty might ask:

“Eh, this fellow got birth certificate or software licence?”

Then a silly thought crossed my mind.

What if one day an AI actor wins an award..at the 🏆 THE GOLDEN MICROCHIP AWARDS!?

Imagine the scene…

🎬 And the Winner Is…

Presenter: “And the Golden Microchip for Best AI Actor goes to… MR AI-007!”

👏👏👏 STANDING OVATION!

A handsome AI actor walks onto the stage to collect his trophy.

AI Actor: “Thank you! First, I would like to thank my mother…”

Presenter: “Awww, how touching! Your mother who?””

AI Actor: “Motherboard.”

Presenter: “HARRRR??? 😳”

AI Actor: “Without her, I wouldn't be here today.”

Presenter: “And your father?”

AI Actor: “Power Supply.”

Presenter: “Any siblings?”

AI Actor: “Yes. My two brothers, Laptop and Tablet.”

Presenter: “What about your girlfriend?”

AI Actor: “Siri.”

Presenter: “Wah! Congratulations! Getting married soon?”

AI Actor: “Cannot lah. Her father Apple doesn't approve!”

🔋 An Unexpected Emergency!

Just as our handsome actor prepares to continue his acceptance speech…

BEEP! BEEP! BATTERY 1%!

AI Actor: “Lastly, I would like to thank all my fans. I looooo…”

SYSTEM SHUTTING DOWN.

💥 BLACKOUT!

Presenter: “HELLO??? HELLO??? SOMEBODY BRING A CHARGER!!!”

From the audience, Motherboard shouts:

“BOY AH! I TOLD YOU TO CHARGE BEFORE LEAVING HOME!”

Father Power Supply adds:

“EVERY DAY CHARGE, CHARGE, CHARGE! YOU THINK ELECTRICITY FREE AH???”

🏆 A New Award Category?

Perhaps one day, the Golden Microchip Awards will introduce a brand-new category:

BEST AI ACTOR WHO CAN FINISH HIS SPEECH BEFORE THE BATTERY DIES! 🤣

And at the award ceremony…

🎤 主持人:「請問你拍這部電影最大的挑戰是什麼?」

Presenter: “What was your biggest challenge while making this movie?”

🤖 AI演員:「最大的挑戰……是網絡不穩定!」

AI Actor: “My biggest challenge… was the unstable internet connection!”

🎤 主持人:「得獎後有什麼打算?」

Presenter: “What are your plans after winning this award?”

🤖 AI演員:「我要回家充電了!」

AI Actor: “I'm going home to recharge!” 🔌

Aunty's Final Thoughts❤️

Jokes aside, technology is really advancing at an amazing speed.

Who knows what we'll see in another ten or twenty years?

Perhaps AI actors will become so realistic that we won't know who's human and who's not.

But one thing is certain…

If an AI actor ever wins an award, somebody PLEASE remember to bring a power bank!

Otherwise…

NOW YOU SEE HIM, NOW YOU DON'T!

Just a little nonsense from an aunty whose imagination wandered all the way to Hollywood today.

Aunty Remembers — Rediffusion, My Childhood Companion

Rediffusion was my companion for the whole day. Every morning at 6am, the National Anthem came on—Aunty’s alarm clock to get ready for school.

Rediffusion: “It’s 6am! Time to wake up!”

Aunty: “School already? Okay, okay, I’m getting up!”

School finished around 1pm, and I would rush to catch the bus, dabao my lunch and get home just in time for Lee Dai Soh’s storytelling from 2.15pm to 2.45pm. Eating and listening together—cannot waste a single minute!

But aiyoh! Every time the story reached its most exciting moment…

Lee Dai Soh: “请各位下次收听!”

Little Aunty: “HAAAA?! Like that also can? Now must wait until tomorrow!”

After that, Mandarin pop songs and Cantonese opera filled the house. That was where I learnt to sing—though my family and the neighbours upstairs said it sounded like a chicken being killed!

Aunty: “I’m practising my singing!”

Family And Neighbours: “Can you practise a little more quietly?”

At night, Ong Toh’s Hokkien storytelling was on. Listening to him was where I learnt to speak Hokkien. There were Teochew, Hakka and Hainanese programmes too, so the neighbours would hop over to listen.

Then came the great battle over the selector knob—Gold Channel or Silver Channel?

Our home was also a little shop, so the doors were open all day. The wooden clog shop towkay would simply walk in and change the Rediffusion channel. Little Aunty would switch it back. He turned it again. Aunty turned it back again. Aiyoh, never-ending battle!

Even the upstairs neighbours would shout down their channel requests, but Mama and Aunty usually ignored them.

Finally, the towkay complained to Grandma, who was listening to Rediffusion from her room, just beside the set.

Grandma: “You want to turn the knob all day? Go install your own Rediffusion lah!”

Little Aunty: “Hehehe… Grandma has spoken!”

Best of all, we paid only a small fee and could leave it on all day—no extra electricity bill. What a bargain for so many stories, songs and languages!

And Rediffusion followed us even after we relocated to a new rental flat—we kept renting the set there too. We only stopped when the dialect programmes disappeared and everything switched to Mandarin.

Mama: “Where are my Cantonese operas?”

Aunty: “Mama, shall I sing for you?”

Mama: “You dare, you sing lah!”

Aunty: “Aiyoh, Mama, I was only offering!”
