My Pictorial Diary

A picture tells a thousand words, so I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Armed with nothing but a camera,
Take nothing but pictures,
Capture nothing but memories,
Leave nothing but footprints.

Dakota Crescent – The Memories Left Behind (Part 2)

Across the Road… But Where's Ah Boy?

Aunty crossed the road to kaypoh kaypoh, and Ah Boy disappeared again!

Aunty: Wah, another block! Let me cross over and check check.

Street Lamp: Aunty, where's your Ah Boy?

Aunty: Huh? Just now still around leh! Where did he disappear to.

Street Lamp: Aiyoh! You busy looking at buildings, he busy doing his own disappearing act!

Aunty: Never mind lah! He knows how to find me… I hope! HAHAHAHA!

A Little Touch of Japan

Aunty: Wah! Dakota Crescent also got Japanese garden ah?

Garden Lantern: Konnichiwa, Aunty! Welcome to our little Zen corner!

Aunty: Aiyoh, so peaceful leh! Where's the koi pond?

Garden Lantern: No koi pond lah! We are the budget version!

Aunty: WAKAKAKAKA! Never mind, free admission can already!

The Gentleman on the Wall

Look at that old-fashioned bracket! Quite elegant, isn't it? A little vintage charm surviving at Dakota Crescent.

Aunty: Hello, handsome! Wah, you look very atas leh!

Wall Lamp: Of course, Aunty! I've been standing here looking elegant for years!

Aunty: Standing? Hello, you're hanging on the wall lah!

Wall Lamp: Aiyoh! Must you spoil my grand introduction?

Aunty: WAKAKAKAKA! Okay lah, Mr Gentleman! Carry on hanging around!

The Playground That Remembered Laughter

Aunty: Wahhhh! You're still here! Nowadays very hard to find playgrounds like you leh!

Playground: Of course I'm still here, Aunty! But where have all my little friends gone?

Aunty: Aiyoh… they've all grown up lah. Some probably grandparents already!

Playground: HUH?! So long I've been waiting ah?!

Aunty: Never mind! At least you still look handsome!

Playground: Handsome? Aunty, I'm a playground, not your boyfriend!

Aunty: WAKAKAKAKA! Don't worry lah! I won't ask you to pak tor!

The Coconut Trees That Stayed Behind

From playground to coconut trees! Dakota Crescent really got kampung flavour leh!

Aunty: Hello, coconut tree! Wah, you also one of Dakota Crescent's old residents ah?

Coconut Tree: Of course lah! I've been standing here for years!

Aunty: Then where's your IC? Show me your address!

Coconut Tree: Aiyoh, Aunty! My roots are my address!

Aunty: WAKAKAKAKA! Good answer! But don't anyhow drop your coconuts on my head hor!

Coconut Tree: Then don't stand underneath me lah!

The Door That Wouldn't Tell Its Secrets

Aunty: Hello, anybody home? Knock knock!

Door: Nobody home lah, Aunty! Everybody moved out already!

Aunty: Then why are you still standing here?

Door: Somebody must look after the memories, mah!

Aunty: Wah, so loyal ah! Got salary or not?

Door: Salary? Aiyoh! Even my nameplate kena taken away!

Aunty: WAKAKAKAKA! Poor thing! Never mind, I take your photo for remembrance!

Finally, Someone Is Home!

Aunty: HELLO!!! Anybody home? Wah! Finally spotted a resident!

Cat: Aiyoh, Aunty! So early in the morning, why you shout shout? Cannot see I'm waiting for the lift meh?

Aunty: Oops! Sorry lah! I thought everybody had moved out!

Cat: Everybody? Hello! I'm still here hor! WAKAKAKAKA!

The Resident Who Stayed Behind

Aunty: Hello, little one! You look so comfortable here. This your house ah?

Ginger Cat: Of course lah! You think I'm trespassing meh?

Aunty: Aiyoh, don't be so fierce! Just asking only!

Ginger Cat: Then stop questioning me and come scratch my head lah!

Our ginger VIP looking up at Aunty! Now comes the important question: MAKAN!

Aunty: Aiyoh, little one, why you keep looking at me? Hungry ah?

Ginger Cat: You got bring breakfast for me?

Aunty: Err… no leh. But Aunty can go buy some for you!

Ginger Cat: Aiyoh! Come visit me empty-handed! At least bring some ikan lah!

A Friendly Face in a Forgotten Estate

Aunty finally met a friendly little resident outside the lift and decided to stay awhile.

Aunty: Hello, little one! You waiting for the lift or waiting for breakfast?

Ginger Cat: Waiting for breakfast lah! Lift cannot eat, what!

Aunty: Aiyoh, you hungry ah? Where's your mama?

Ginger Cat: Aunty, you ask so many questions. Got food or not?

Aunty: I was thinking of buying you something to eat. But I saw feeding containers nearby. Somebody looking after you, hor?

Ginger Cat: Of course lah! We got our own catering service!

Aunty: Wah! Better than Aunty! I still have to find my own breakfast!

I lingered a little longer with this friendly ginger cat, wondering whether it was hungry. I had thought of buying some cat food for the cats around the estate, but after noticing feeding containers nearby, I hoped that kind feeders were already looking after them.

Meanwhile, Ah Boy finally reappeared from a distance. Where had he disappeared to? Perhaps he'd been exploring Kallang River on his own little adventure!

Aunty: OI, AH BOY! Where you go?!

Ah Boy: You busy interviewing cat, I go sightseeing lah!

Another Resident Spotted!

Aunty: Hello, little one! Good morning!

Cat: Shhhh! Don't announce my whereabouts lah!

Aunty: Aiyoh, why so shy? Come, let Aunty take one nice photo!

Cat: ONE photo only, hor! No interviews!

Aunty: Eh, where you going? I haven't even asked your name!

Cat: BYEEEE!

Slowly, the furry residents began waking up and appearing one by one. Some were so camera-shy that they darted away before I could even say hello!

This little fellow allowed me just one photograph before quietly sneaking away too.

Goodbye, Dakota Crescent!

Aunty: Come, let's look for a few more furry residents!

Ah Boy: Enough lah! Time to go home!

Aunty: Aiyoh! Just one more cat?

Ah Boy: You said that how many cats ago?!

Aunty: Okay lah, okay lah! Don't complain already!

And so, our early morning wander around Dakota Crescent came to an end.

I would have loved to meet more of its furry residents, but Ah Boy had officially called it a day!

Goodbye, little ones! May you always have full tummies, safe places to sleep, kind people looking after you, and most importantly, good health.

Aunty: Bye-bye, my furry friends! Take good care of yourselves, hor!

Cats: MEOW! Next time come back with ikan!

Aunty: AIYOH! Still remember the ikan ah?!
